We are delighted to announce that the two new members of Team Freespeed Skechers Performance for 2014 are Chris Nicholls and Dee Allen.
We were inundated with applications from so many fantastic, deserving athletes and it has been an almost impossible job to whittle down to the final two applicants. We have decided to go with young, raw talent this time around and it is an exciting prospect for us to watch Chris and Dee develop over the coming seasons and to hopefully help them to reach their full potential.
Chris is 27 and lives in Balham, London. An ex-hockey player, he finished fourth overall last year at Dambuster (National Championships) in his first season of triathlon. He now has an eye on racing longer, focusing on UK70.3 this year and if all goes well a trip to the World Champs in Mont Tremblant, Canada later in the year. Chris follows in the footsteps of Alison Rowatt and Sam Baxter who both joined the team from a competitive hockey background.
Dee is 24 and lives near Manchester. Dee has only ever raced two sprint triathlons but has a 10k run pb of 34.39, swam competitively as a junior and commutes 22 miles every day to work in Evans cycle shop at the Trafford Centre. Dee finished 26th in the National Cross Country championships last weekend and her proudest moment was finishing 12th in the junior world mountain running championships, racing in the England team alongside Alistair Brownlee. We are excited to see how Dee performs as her focus switches to triathlon this year.
It is a testament to our current athletes that the application process saw such an enthusiastic response. It is not an exaggeration to say we could have filled each position on the team many times over, all with exceptional candidates.
A whole hearted thank you to every single person who took the time to apply to join the team, you are now on our radar and we’ll be keeping track of your racing over the coming season in advance of applications opening up for next year.
