Two new faces on the team

The middle of the year saw two new athletes joining the team.

Kate Driskell Team Freespeed

First up is Kate Driskell who won our Virgin Active “12th team member” competition. Kate caught our eye with her application that perfectly captured her enthusiasm for the sport of triathlon, love of a healthy lifestyle and her eclectic and captivating social media presence.

Kate has raced in team colours around the country including at the Virgin Active London Triathlon and in Valencia and has been a source of inspiration to other team members with her always smiling approach to the sport.

On hearing she had won the competition, Kate said “I couldn’t believe it when I received the call from Virgin Active to say I had won the competition – when I found out I exploded with joy! The triathlon scene is such a fantastic community to be a part of and I’ve followed Team Freespeed Virgin Active for some time – to be joining them is a dream come true.”

Alongside Kate the team was delighted to welcome Jamie Hinton on board.

In a perfect demonstration of putting himself in the frame for the team, Jamie stepped up a level this year and dominated the Thames Turbo Sprint series, winning the first three races. This put Jamie on our radar and we were then pleased that he made contact and agreed to meet up and discuss his future plans.

The team has always been focussed on long distance racing and whilst Jamie’s current focus is the ITU World Championships in Hyde Park, he does feel his future lies at longer distances and we can’t wait to help him along that journey.

Nicknamed the team ‘fish’ this is quite an accolade with swimmers of the calibre of Matt Molloy already on the team.
