As we noted in the previous article, Declan’s comeback race in South Africa was always going to come a little early in his rehab to expect a stellar performance, but all eyes were focussed on achieving a Kona slot for the World Championships in October.
With a solid fourth place finish in his age group he made the cut and can now start planning an autumn trip to Hawaii. Dec is a man who chooses his words carefully so, whilst short, his race report sums up the day perfectly!
Ironman is so hard and I suffered like a dog. Mum and dad brought me home.
